Dear Younger Me

You are Darna.

You are Wonder Woman.

By Wemie Piao

Dear Younger Wemie,

Hello, how are you? I hope you are doing well. Despite the difficulty you’re facing, can you still smile? Remember, you are strong. You are the Darna of your husband. You are the Wonder Woman of your children. Being a mother and a wife make you strong… you need to be strong.

Wemie, I know life has been tough. It seems like a dark cloud of negative thoughts darkens more even when you hope.

Your husband had a good job that made your life comfortable. But in an instant, all that comfort is gone. When you had to give up everything so he could get his medication, luxury became less important.

And then September 2022, you had to bear another problem when your daughter needed surgery. Those days were too hard for you, and you were scared. You couldn’t sleep, eat, or rest. You felt like God had forsaken you, and you wanted to give up. The load was just too much for you to bear.

Being a mother and a wife make you strong…

If you feel like giving up, I am here to remind you: you are the DARNA and WONDER WOMAN of your family! Always remember that challenges you face may tear you apart, but you yourself alone will choose to either fight or give up. Always bear in mind that nobody else can help you but yourself – you alone and our God Almighty. Surrender everything to Him, and He will help you carry your weight.

There are ups and downs in life, and it is not always a straight line. But hardship, frustration, fears, and problems will teach you something. And as the saying goes, behind dark clouds are bright blue skies, that beauty exists even in the heaviest winds and in the darkest of these clouds.

Wemie, thank you for staying strong when we felt like giving up. Overthinking and rethinking are in your nature, and yet listening to your heart is still the best decision you ever made.
